UPDATE: On-campus armed robbery reported

Although the suspect involved in an armed robbery at Scarlett Commons has not been identified or apprehended, officials with the MTSU Office of Public Safety do not believe students are in any immediate danger.

According to an MTSU Alert sent late Tuesday night, officials believe the suspect has fled the area and students may resume normal activities on campus.

Officials with the Murfreesboro Police Department were not available for comment, however, campus police said the incident remains under investigation.

9:15 p.m.

Police are looking for a white male suspect who is wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday at Scarlett Commons Apartments on campus, according to an MTSU Alert sent to students at 8:55 p.m.

The suspect is described as being about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with blonde hair and a full goatee, and he was last seen wearing a hoodie and jeans, according to the MTSU Office of Public Safety. One witness told campus police the suspect had a silver handgun and was also carrying a black backpack.

According to an official with campus police, the robbery took place some time between 7:20 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. near Building 4 of the on-campus apartments, located on the eastern side of campus near the Health, Wellness and Recreation Center.

Students are advised to leave the area immediately and to report any suspicious activity by calling the Office of Public Safety at 615-898-2424.
