UPDATE: Maple waives extradition to Rutherford County | BASKINS

Marvin Maple
Grandfather Marvin Maple waived extradition in California Thursday on kidnapping charges and should return Friday to Rutherford County to face prosecution, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Maple, 72, of San Jose, Calif., was charged with kidnapping grandchildren Christie Baskin, 8, and Bobby Baskin, 7, almost 20 years ago from Rutherford County. Investigators Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Sharp and spokesman Sgt. Dan Goodwin said Maple appeared before a judge Thursday to gain the extradition. “We’ve spoke to Christie Baskin and she’s verified that her brother is living in the San Jose area,” Goodwin said. “We do not believe he has children.” Parents Mark and Debbie Baskin have not yet seen their children. The Baskins are expected to speak at a press conference Friday morning with Sharp and Goodwin at the San Jose Police Department. The investigators received documentation from the coroner’s office Maple’s wife, Sandra, died in May 2005. Goodwin credited the women who notified San Jose Police Department about Maple’s identity with helping solve the case after 20 years.
