The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties is currently seeking volunteers for the 2013 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites through its partnership with Greenhouse Ministries.

VITA is a free service and will aide qualifying local residents in claiming their tax refund dollars.

 Volunteers are needed throughout January to April to assist with the sites, which will vary from Greenhouse Ministries during the week to mobile sites on weekends. Previous experience with tax preparation is preferred but not required.

Volunteer responsibilities will include greeting and screening to tax preparation. Volunteers should be available on a weekly basis during tax season, and volunteer registration is available at www.unitedwayvolunteer.org. Interested volunteers should register by November 16.

Training sessions will be conducted in December 2012.

In 2012, this partnership resulted in 346 tax returns with a total refund of $492,000 to residents within Rutherford and Cannon Counties.
