United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties is partnering with Murfreesboro City Schools and Rutherford County Schools to refurbish playgrounds on Sept. 26..
Companies and organizations are asked to adopt a playground by sponsoring materials and providing volunteers for the project.
This second annual event is aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles as part of United Way’s impact area of health. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, regular physical activity in childhood and adolescence improves strength and endurance, helps build healthy bones and muscles, helps control weight, reduces anxiety and stress, increases self-esteem, and may improve blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Hometown Huddle is part of United Way’s focus on healthy lifestyles during the month of September. Other projects include Middle Tennessee State University’s Freshman Day of Service and Run United presented by the Avenue benefiting United Way.
Annual event sponsors include Publix Super Markets Charities, Nissan North America, Inc., Regions Bank, Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital, Emergency Physicians of Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital and City Auto.
