MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Michelle Russell has joined the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties staff in the role of relationship manager, according to a press release.

Most recently, Russell was the executive director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and was the general manager for The Daily News Journal prior to that role.

Russell has served on the United Way board of directors, as well as the Business Women’s Council for the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.

She will be advancing corporate and investor relations by promoting engagement with United Way through giving, advocating and volunteering.

The United Way’s mission is to improve lives by advancing opportunities for education, health and financial stability for all.

For years, the nonprofit organization has been a staple in the communities of Rutherford and Cannon counties.

Meagan Flippin, president and chief executive officer of United Way, praised Russell’s experience, noting her depth of knowledge will be an asset to the nonprofit organization.

“I believe Michelle’s relationship-building skills, leadership style and professional experience as an executive will be an ideal asset to the United Way’s mission and vision,” Flippin said.

Russell and her husband live in Murfreesboro.

She can be reached at or 615-893-7303.
