Longtime Uncle Dave Macon Days festival organizer Gloria Christy will be presenting a gift of $3,500 to the newly formed Friends of Cannonsburgh at 3 p.m. during the historic village’s Pioneer Day event on Saturday, April 16.

Located at 312 S. Front St., the park is a reconstructed southern village that represents life in Middle Tennessee from the mid-1800s to around 1930.  The site originally was constructed as one of the United States’ 1976 Bicentennial Celebration projects.  According to Christy, Cannonsburgh is one of the few remaining such endeavors still in use.

“For more than 20 years, Cannonsburgh has been the home to Uncle Dave Macon Days and it is important to us to be a good steward to the facility. It is such an integral part of the weekend’s success.” said Christy. “Last year, when our board first announced a small admission would be charged to attend, we stated that those funds would go toward the future sustainability of the festival. We are the largest event held at Cannonsburgh and sharing some of our proceeds helps it continue to be a great place to hold the event.”

Kris Delene, one of the organizers of the friends’ group said, “I think everyone loves Cannonsburgh.  I know I really do. It takes a lot of work to keep this lovely village a place we all can enjoy.  The purpose of our organization is to support, promote and help raise funds for projects beyond the regular operating resources. We are very happy to receive this gift from Uncle Dave Macon Days as it will greatly help us reach our future goals.”

The upcoming 34th annual Uncle Dave Macon Days is a three-day old time music and dance festival that will take place at Cannonsburgh, July 8-10.
