Uncle Dave Macon Days festival Director Teresa Owen is eager to talk to potential arts and crafts vendors who have an interest in having a booth at this year’s event July 10-12 at Cannonsburgh Pioneer Village in Murfreesboro. “Based on the amount of booths that we usually still have available at this time of year, it appears we will have a few extra spots,” said Owen. “I would love to see those booths filled with high quality work from Middle Tennessee artists.” Uncle Dave Macon Days is held the second weekend of July at Cannonsburgh Pioneer Village, 312 S. Front St. Organizers for the highly-charged group of music contests award a purse of $15,000, including three national titles in Old Time Banjo, Clogging and Buckdancing. It is one of the country’s largest traditional music festivals drawing a crowd of 40,000 people. The event regularly is selected as one of the top 20 events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society and one of the Top 100 events in North American by the American Bus Association. Also featured are a large arts and crafts show, demonstrators, food vendors, a motorless parade on Saturday morning, children’s activities, free music workshops and a gospel sing and non-profit community fair on Sunday. New this year on Sunday only will be a starving artist section. “We especially would like to encourage skilled artisans that make themselves and sell handicrafts such as blacksmithing, soap making, weaving and fiber, musical instruments, jewelry, basketry or other handmade items to apply,” Owen said. “Additionally, we’d like to talk to demonstrators that would have an interest in sharing their knowledge of traditional skills with our many wonderful visitors. We’re open to talk with people who would want to demonstrate a skill, but might not have product to sell such as clothes being cleaned on a wash board, hand-sewing, tatting, butter making … things like that.” Owen emphasized that no buy-and-resell, plastic glow items, flea market merchandise, plastic toys or mass-produced products can be sold. Also, all food vending booths are taken. For more information about participating as an arts and crafts vendor or demonstrator, contact Owen at (615) 893-4953 or e-mail UDMD_DIRECTOR@Yahoo.com

There is no guarantee that it will not rain on any given day. So be prepared.

You are right barrettbear, last year hundreds of others and I sat in the rain on a warm, sunny afternoon watching the clogging finals. We were all soaked to the skin and laughing. While I would have PREFERED that it had not been raining....it did not stop the festivities or the great time we had.
Uncle Dave Macon Days is my favorite event all year in Murfreesboro! I think I will wear my orange sunhat again this year!
