An unattended stove caused major fire damage to a Rockvale home Sunday afternoon.
Homeowner Gwendolyn James, 44, of 5361 Hampden Drive, was at work when her 17-year-old male left the stove unattended while frying shrimp.
When he returned to the kitchen, he found a grease fire on the stove. The young man fought the flames, while his sister called the fire department.
The Salem-Blackman volunteer fire department responded and extinguished the fire, which caused $10,000 in damage to the home’s kitchen and $5,000 in smoke and water damage to the home.
