U.S. Census to kick off with Dec. 3 program

The 2010 Census will kick off in Murfreesboro at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Suite E, 833 Memorial Blvd.

Tennessee state Sen. Mae Beavers and other dignitaries will formally kick off the 2010 Census in Murfreesboro and central Tennessee at the ceremony for the Murfreesboro Local Census Office. The Riverdale High School JROTC of Murfreesboro will present the colors; Justin Mangrum will sing the national anthem.

Sen. Beavers will deliver keynote remarks. Mayor Tommy Bragg will issue a proclamation from the city of Murfreesboro. Jess Avina, assistant regional census manager of the U.S. Census Bureau, also will speak. The Rev. Alan Jackson from the World Outreach Church will provide the invocation. Guests include Terry Cunningham, compete count committee chair for Rutherford County, who will issue a proclamation.

A reception and office tour scheduled at end of the hour-long program.
