Two suspects were accused of assaulting Murfreesboro Police officers in the past few days.

Florence Olynn Adams, 68, of 2010 Saddlebrook Drive was charged with assault on Officer Mick Rea after a traffic crash Monday on Northfield Boulevard and MTCS Drive.

Rea described Adams as being “irate, belligerent, combative and uncooperative” during his investigation of the crash.

She refused to sign citations he wrote her for registration violation and failure to provide proof of insurance.

“Adams threw a 64-ounce drink at me and struck me on my lower leg and boot,” Rea reported.

When Rea asked why she did that, she replied, “You were in the way,” and laughed.

Rea charged her with assault on a law enforcement officer “for an act that was extremely provocative and offensive.”

Her hearing is set Oct. 29 in General Sessions Court.

In another case, suspect Marguanea Brean Smotherman, 18, of Antioch, was charged with simple assault on Officer Jason Parker and disorderly conduct.

Parker was backing up other officers on an arrest of a man with a hostile crowd of about 40 people at 9:30 p.m. last Wednesday on Eagle Street.

“All of the individuals in the crowd were shouting and cursing at officers (Shawn) Haney and (Sam) Smith while they were still attempting to secure the male subject in a patrol vehicle,” Parker reported.

Parker ordered people to stop being disorderly and leave. Parker accused Smotherman of striking his chest. She walked away but returned to shout profanities at the officers.

When Smotherman approached the officers, Parker stepped him and Smotherman told him to get his hands off her. The officer accused her of inciting the crowd. Parker decided to charge her with assault and disorderly conduct.

Smotherman was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing was set Sept. 24 in General Sessions Court.

Three or four white boys were accused of spray-painting “KKK” and racial slurs concerning President Barack Obama inside the Agriculture Building Sunday night at Old Fort Park, Officer Daniel Love reported.

Damage to the inside of the building amounted to about $2,000, Love reported.

A witness told Love he saw several boys running around the building about 11 p.m.

Old Fort Park has been the victim of several vandalisms during the past few weeks.

"Three or four white boys were accused of spray-painting “KKK” and racial slurs concerning President Barack Obama inside the Agriculture Building Sunday night at Old Fort Park"

They better post bond or they'll miss their chance to represent the face of today's GOP at Bart Gordon's Town Hall!

Maybe Marguanea Brean Smotherman, whose race wasn't mentioned, along with her hostile crowd of about 40 will be there to represent Obama's and thinkingman's interests at the town hall too.

Since the race of the three or four "white boys" was mentioned in the article, shouldn't we be told the race of the crazy old woman and Marguanea?
