| On the day National Guardsman David Moffett was set to deploy to Afghanistan, he discovered someone had stolen his car.
Moffett, a member of the 2030th Signal Company, reported his 2008 Dodge Avenger stolen to Murfreesboro Police on July 22.
The two juveniles were spotted Friday traveling in the stolen car near Middle Tennessee Boulevard and Greenland Drive. The driver initially refused to stop for officers and when stopping, both juveniles ran from the officers on foot.
Both juveniles were caught after a short foot chase and a large knife was discovered on the passenger.
Officer Curtis Brinkley, assisted by Officers Mic Rea, Tracey Womack, Kristy Inglish, and Sergeant Chad Hershman arrested the two juveniles.
Both admitted to stealing the vehicle and to their involvement in gangs as partial motivation.
The juveniles were transported to Rutherford County Juvenile Detention. The driver is charged with theft, felony evading by motor vehicle and evading arrest by foot.
The passenger is charged with theft, evading arrest by foot, and possession of a weapon.
The vehicle was turned over to the Moffett’s family on the scene. |
