The Center for the Arts is shocked by accusations leveled last week against two of its former employees, Director Tony Cimino said.

On Thursday two former employees – Jared Scott, 36, of Huntington Drive, and Justin Mangrum, 22, also of Huntington Drive – were arrested for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old male while he was performing at the arts center.

“No one at the center knew about it,” Cimino said. “If we would have known, I would have called the police myself.”

Scott and Mangrum were both employees at the time, but they are no longer employed there, Cimino said. Neither have been employed at the nonprofit arts center since last year.

The pair allegedly performed oral sex on the victim and had the victim perform oral sex on them, the arrest report said.

During interviews with Murfreesboro police detectives, the suspects gave conflicting reports of the incident. Mangrum gave a full statement implicating both men in the incident.

“We are a family friendly environment. We try to run a safe environment,” Cimino said. “If this is true, it is deplorable.”

Bond and court dates have not been set yet.

In a separate incident, James W. Harmon, 23, of Franklin Road, was arrested on a sealed indictment Thursday for more than 25 counts of the aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and more than 100 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

An investigation into Harmon began in December of last year after a referral from a computer repair shop when child pornography was discovered on Harmon’s computer during a service call.

“The laptop was examined by the TBI, who located well over 100 possible child porn images,” MPD Sgt. Amy Dean said in the arrest report.

This and additional evidence were presented to the grand jury Wednesday, April 6 and an indictment was issued.

Harmon’s bond was set at $50,000. He is scheduled to appear in court April 18.

I was at the Center for the Arts several times last summer and saw several young teenagers, both male and female literally hanging on these two men. I wondered why these kids did not have parents supervising them. A parent should never leave their children at a public place and expect someone else to watch them.
