Early voting was low across the state and Rutherford County was no different.
Early voting ended Saturday in the August county general and state and federal primary election with only 3.5 percent of registered voters turning up at the polls.
Counties across the state, from Chattanooga to Memphis, saw similar turn out. By Friday, only 3.5 percent of Memphians had cast early ballots and Hamilton County had a grand total of 8,059 votes cast early.
In Rutherford County, 4,701 of 133,100 registered voters went to the polls early.
Of those 4,701 who cast early ballots, 136 voted in the general election only, 2,389 voted in the Democratic primary and 2,176 voted in the Republican primary.
In the 2004 August primary and county general election saw 13,054 of 105,954 registered voters, or 12.34 percent, turning out to vote.
The county general election features contested races for superintendent of roads, property assessor, members of the county road board and Rutherford County Board of Education.
In the state and federal primary elections, each race feature at least one contested party primary for every seat in the election.
