Trio arrested in Eagleville couple beatings | Eagleville couple, Cecil Story, home invasion

Ronald W. Damon, Ashton Garza and James Charles Pittard
Three suspects accused of beating an elderly Eagleville couple are in custody, Detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin, sheriff's spokesman, said Wednesday night.

Detective Capt. Preble Acton reported after a comprehensive three-day investigation, suspects Ronald W. Damon, 36, of 901 W. Main St.; Ashton Garza, 19, of 5636 Constantine Dr., Rockvale; and James Charles Pittard, 20, of 2198 West Green Hill Road, McMinnville, were charged with especially aggravated burglary, especially aggravated kidnapping (two counts) and aggravated robbery (two counts) by sheriff's Detective Steve Kohler and Detective Bryant Gregory.

"This unit personalizes all criminal acts against innocent victims however; the heartless and callous nature of this incident created an urgency to arrest those responsible and restore a sense of security to the Eagleville community as well as to the citizens of Rutherford County," Acton said.

The three men face charges in the beating of Cecil Story, 86, and his wife, Edna, 93, who weighs 60 pounds, Goodwin said. The suspects allegedly burst into their Floyd Road home Sunday night, clobbered Cecil Story and beat both residents before robbing them of about $100.

"The detectives and responding deputies were emotionally affected by the victims and what they were subjected to Sunday night," Acton said. "Emotions aside the detective unit came together as professionals do; investigating leads, following those leads and ensuring that a solid case is presented before the Criminal Justice system.

"We are happy that the first phase of this case is completed," the captain said. "We assure the community that the detectives will be as diligent and tireless in the prosecutorial stages of this investigation."

General Sessions Court Judge Ben McFarlin ordered all three men held without bond until a hearing next week.

Hope they get a taste of their own medicine while enjoying the weekend in jail.

So glad to know they are all adults...at least chronologically. That way when the sentence is handed down it won't, or shouldn't, be a matter of 'oh, they are young, misfortunate young men who need another chance.' THROW THE BOOK AT THEM AND THEN BEAT THEM WITH IT! No slap on the wrist...SLAP THE HE11 out of them and then banish them to hard labor without rights or privileges. These scumbags are the lowest of the low!

Thanks to everyone at the Sheriff's Department for all the long hours spent on this investigation!

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office deserves a great big thank you for their hard work in catching these people.

It is very difficult for me to not call these three suspects some really nasty names. They are low lifes to an extraordinary level and they deserve no mercy.

I hope Mr. and Mrs. Story a speedy recovery, physically and mentally.

If you have elderly parents (as I do) or elderly neighbors or friends, please talk with them about the importance of NOT opening the door after a certain time of night without knowing who is there. Many older people grew up in a time when they didn't have to worry about opening the door when someone knocked. Unfortunately, those times of mutual trust have ended!

Thank you RCSD. These are predators, and should be treated as such.

I hope someone takes the bull by the horn and they go to the hearing looking like their poor victims. I hope the bondsman will look long and hard at what they have done to these elderly people and refuse to give them bond. A special thanks to the paper for reporting their address. Makes you wonder how they would feel if some sorry bums stole all their stuff.

These bums are TRASH and chicken crap trash at best! The community is in an up roar over these jerks and rightly so. I hope the next time they try this they are met with a big gun... They don't deserve to live to tell "their side of things".

I say that they should get six months----------in the electric chair.

Just glad they are off the streets, hope the judicial system works in this one. Good work Rutherford county on finding them quickly, I hope they suffer as much as the poor elderly couple.

Glad they caught these scum bags. They should be ashamed of what they did, but they are scum bags, so I doubt they will have any regrets except the regret of being caught!...They should remember, in life, things have a funny way of coming back at you for the terrible things that are done to others!!!!

I say let 'em go. Yes, turn them over to the public. There's nothing our "justice system" can do to punish them "equally" for what they did. Do you really think they can be rehabilitated to become upstanding citizens in our society? No. Hand over these insects to the public and The Story family will receive their justice.

I agree with the comments above. However, I think your outrage will be multiplied when you see how little punishment they get.

Has anyone heard if Mr. Story had surgery on his face and how he is doing? Any word on Mrs. Story?
