Tracy considering race against Gordon

State Sen. Jim Tracy, R-Shelbyville, confirmed Tuesday afternoon he is seriously considering a race for the 6th District congressional race in 2010.

“We are looking at it. I am seriously considering it,” he said.

Tracy said he had had many people ask him to consider running, “I am honored by how many people have asked me.”

More recently he had been heavily involved in a special state house race, helping Pat Marsh win the election.

Since then he has been considering a race next year against incumbent Bart Gordon, D-Murfreesboro, the senior Tennessee congressman who is chairman of the House Science and Energy Committee.

“Gordon has done some good things, but I think people are looking for new ideas to create jobs. They want a commonsense conservative approach,” Tracy said.

Tracy said he would need to evaluate his personal and business life to determine if he is ready “to take the next big step.”

He said he wants to hear from more people in the 6th District and within the next few weeks will “make a decision fairly quickly, I think.”

“I’ve been honored to serve as a state senator and it would be a big honor to represent the 6th District,” Tracy said.

Lou Ann Zelenick earlier resigned as chairman of the county Republican Party to run for the 6th District seat.

Hey that's great. Then we can show everyone who graced our county with the BIBLE PARK SCAM idea. Once that's brought to light he'll lose in a rout. Think about that one Jim.

Nancy Pelosi will ensure a Gordon victory no matter if Ronald Reagan came back from the dead and ran against Bart!

thinkingman - Sen Tracy did us a favor despite what you post. Sen Tracy got the issue to the local County Commissioners; if he had not the State could have voted on it and I do not want someone in Memphis, Tiptonville, Copper Basin telling me how to live in Rutherford County.

Tracy DID NOT VOTE FOR THE BIBLE PARK. Because of that we owe Sen Tracy a big thank you and people like you making such charges are wrong.

Bart has been a good soldier for Pelosi and the uber-left. It's time he gets a well-deserved and permanent vacation. If he hasn't done anything else this term, he has motivated a lot of people who would not otherwise be active politically to assure he gets that vacation.

soon2b6, you are correct in that Gordon's friends ( Pelosi, Boxer, Frank, the Kennedy's, Obama, Biden ) will make sure lots of money is sent here and a smear campaign will be launched against Jim Tracy.
That is how desperate the liberal Democrats are and will stop at nothing to keep the seat.

So ItsGood, are you confident that there will be no smear campaign run against Congressman Gordon by Senator Tracy's campaign? Do you think Sen. Tracy would be willing to sign a pledge to that account? Would the Republican leadership allow him to sign such a pledge? It would be nice to have a single campaign without a silly season, which apparently has already started.

Sorry, Bart will start early on the smear ( reference about 1986 when Milsaps ran against
Gordon ).

Now, to answer you question - I am sure Sen Tracy will present facts that Bart, Stubbs, and Syler will consider "smear".

I assume you are already defending Gordon and his voting record that is not in touch with his district?

Tracy needs to wait 4 more years. The Dem's will destroy his life. Let Zelenick take this blow this time. Tracy is proven and can beat him in '14.

Having local boy Bart in Congress is like having a huge "industry" creating jobs in Rutherford County, i.e., return of Smyrna Airport to local jurisdiction, and then, landing refurbishing funds to the airport that had been allowed to deterioate badly by Nashville, the highly-used Greenways, the four-lane all the way from Nashville through Murfreesboro, not to mention the education funds routed to MTSU...all of it triggers jobs...

Time for Bart to go. He voted the party line all the way. See how much you like him when the entitlements come due. Can you say, " forced state income tax " to pay for barts and pelosi's follies.

Jim has a great chance of winning. Give it a shot Sen Tracy!

If you go on substance, what's benefitted R.C., you go Gordon...if you think it won't change with someone from another county, you're naive....Jim is a great attender of ham breakfastes, but he's delivered few benefits for R.C....check the records...

Bart has been a faithful servant of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County and though I diagree with his vote on healthcare his seniority is important. He has in every case served us well
