Preliminary losses reached $33.4 million for 718 homes damaged or destroyed by the Good Friday tornadoes, Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency reported Sunday.
Ninety-four houses were destroyed, 285 home sustained major damage and 136 sustained minor damage, reported spokesman Randy White of the Emergency Medical Services. Another 200 homes were affected.
“Those estimates are going to go up today,” White said.
Several doctors volunteered to refill vital prescriptions for patients who lost medications in the storm. Patients ay call the HELP Line at 890-1934 for help.
Rutherford County is planning a mass cleanup day Saturday with more details announced later.
Some other updates include:
The Emergency Management agency would like to stress that the burning of debris is illegal. Trash and debris removal will be handled by the City and County Solid Waste Departments. Residents are asked to put yard waste and building materials in separate piles in their yards since the materials will be transported to two different disposal locations.
“We are continuing to issue passes for anyone needing to enter affected areas,” White reported. “Contractors, all Volunteers, and anyone that has a reason to be in the area will need to resister at the Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency at 1220 West College Street before attempting to enter restricted neighborhoods.”
