Tornado damage climbs to $41.2 million Thursday

Estimated damage climbed to $41.8 million Thursday from the Good Friday EF4 tornado that damaged businesses and 845 homes, reported the Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency.

Of the 845 homes, 117 were demolished, 298 sustained major damage and 175 sustained minor damage, reported EMA spokesman Randy White. An additional 255 homes were affected.

Agents of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Individual Assistance and Public Assistance Teams and the Small Business Administration are in the area doing assessments of the damage.

The County Landfill has taken in over 5,071 tons of debris. They are weighing four trucks per minute. The Florence Rd facility has taken in over 3,140 tons of trees and brush.

Residents are asked to separate yard waste in different piles from building materials, appliances and metals. City, county and mutual aid departments are hauling the debris.

Beginning Monday, people who live in the affected areas with any home damage are asked to call the information line at (615) 890-2957 or (615) 890-5519. These lines will be open from 8 a,m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The lines will only be available for one week.

Passes to enter the affected area will not be required after Friday.
