If you count the number of restaurants in the Murfreesboro area, it soon becomes obvious that Asian food is a local favorite.
While many of us refer to it as Chinese food, Asian cuisine is a better description of a dietary style that includes food from China, Thailand, Laos, Japan, Mongolia, Korea and other Asian countries.
With each culture, the foods can vary wildly from the mild Cantonese to the spicy Szechuan and Hunan-style Chinese dishes.
And who ever dreamed that you would be able to buy fresh sushi, made before your eyes.
The polls for the favorite local Asian restaurant are in. Not only did readers rank Far East, Fuji’s and Bangkok Café among the top, they also added some great input on local Asian cuisine.
Here are the results:
1. Far East Restaurant: 1529 E Main St., Murfreesboro, 890-1413. Serving Thai cuisine, Far East is Murfreesboro’s oldest existing Asian restaurant. The family-owned eatery serves up egg rolls, fried rice, cashew chicken and beef with broccoli and much more. It’s known as the home of the sweetest sweet ice tea in town.
“Far East is by far the best Asian food in the Boro. They actually use quality ingredients. You can tell with every bite,” says murfreesboropost.com reader dbr2e.
2. Fuji: 352 W. Northfield Blvd Suite A, 907-1868. Fuji was Murfreesboro’s first Japanese Steakhouse and offers sushi with a hibachi grill.
“Fuji's if you're feeling like a Japanese steak house,” says reader Devolver.
“As for Japanese, I like Fuji a lot,” says TastyMacNougat.
3. Bangkok Café: 315 Robert Rose Drive, Murfreesboro, 896-8399. Serving Thai cuisine, the cafe is known for its curried chicken and beef. The spring rolls were also praised by Post readers.

Recommendations from two Post readers ...
Two Post readers really stood out on their knowledge of local Asian restaurants.
Here are some recommendations from them:
Elguapo:
Listen up! There are only 3 decent Asian restaurants in the Boro.
For Thai-Noppakao, across from the new Wal-Mart on Rutherford.
For Japanese-Aja Sushi in Jackson Heights where Cherry Blossom used to be.
For Chinese-Taste of China.
All of these are mom and pop restaurants.
They are not the best in the world but they are the best that we've got.
As for the previous recommendation for The Clay Pot Indian Restaurant- when they decide to clean up the place and serve the food on something other than Styrofoam plates, I'd be glad to go back as their food is not bad.
Devolver:
I know it’s a chain, but Pei-Wei has some great dishes.
For delivery, I usually order from China Spring on Middle Tennessee Blvd.
The Clay pit has a killer curried chicken.
Thai Spice has a yellow curry to die for.
Sakura has the best sushi in town.
Fuji's if you're feeling like a Japanese steak house.
Golden Eagle for Mongolian grill. (and its lots of fun)
As a life-long resident of Murfreesboro, it’s very exciting to have such a great cross-cultural selection of food to choose from. Now, if any of these places go 24/7, I may never leave.

“The Bangkok Cafe. Great food, service and nice place to enjoy a quiet meal,” says Bota, “Except when Jack wants to talk about golf."
“I have eaten at tons of Asian restaurants throughout Middle Tennessee, and my favorite is still Bangkok,” says T-rex.
4. Tied for 4th place was Taste of China and Chef Wang’s. Taste of China is a carry –out located on 1730 W Northfield Blvd., Murfreesboro 37129, 896-5933, and Chef Wang’s, a buffet, hibachi grill and bar is located at 1145 NW Broad St., Murfreesboro, 37129, 217-6899.
“OMG, Taste of China is the best of the best,” says reader Tealady.
“I love Taste of China's food. If anyone likes boneless spare ribs, they'll know exactly where I'm coming from. They actually trim the fat from it. Other restaurants leave so much fat and way too much sweet sauce. Yech,” posted Geana.
“There's enough people that like Chef Wang's that they've been voted the best 4 years in a row. Two little words that pack a big punch in flavor - crab legs!!” says gum232.
6. Tied for 6th place was Fulin Asian Cuisine: 2615 Medical Center Parkway (The Avenue) Suite 2300, Murfreesboro 37129, 849-8868, and Pei Wei: 1911 Medical Center Parkway, Murfreesboro, 37129, 896-3886.
“Anyone tried Fulin's Asian Cuisine at the Avenue. Blows the competition out of the water,” says anonymous.
“I know it’s a chain, but Pei-Wei has some great dishes,” posted Devolver.
8. Tied for 8th place was Noppakao: 2943 S Rutherford Blvd., Murfreesboro 37130, 904-1984, and Sushin: 528 N Thompson Lane, Murfreesboro 37129, 895-7585.
“Noppakao on Rutherford – food is excellent, service impeccable,” says hendersona.
“The sushi at Sushin is delicious and if you're never tried a wasabi dumpling...then you should go by Sushin today,” says KristinG8R
10. Omni Hut, The Clay Pit and China Spring all tied for 10th. Omni Hut, located 618 S Lowry St off Hwy 41 and 70 in Smyrna, has Polynesian cuisine 459-4870. The Clay Pit is located beside Little Caesars on 1813 Memorial Blvd. Murfreesboro 37129, 904-6262. China Spring is located on 1638 Middle Tennessee Blvd., Murfreesboro 37130, (615) 896-3200.
“The Clay Pit. Really fine Indian Food,” posted KarlBarth.
“For delivery, I usually order from China Spring on Middle Tennessee Blvd,” said Devolver.
