Tony Hansberry, age 85, of Murfreesboro, passed away on July 10, 2012 at his residence.

He was born on January 3, 1927 in Lascassas, TN to the late Joe and Juanita Handley Hansberry. Tony served in the United States Navy and was a Veteran of World War II in the Pacific. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a retired Captain of Communications for the Tennessee Highway Patrol where he served for 33 years.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Marie Sturm and Lillian August. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maude Drennon Hansberry of Murfreesboro; daughters, Donna (Steve) Hughes and Noi Hughes; grandchildren, Ryan, Wesley and Mandy Hughes and Carey and Shane Hughes; and great-grandchild, Carter Pharris.

A church service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 13, 2012 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael O’Bannon officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with Steve Hughes, Ryan Hughes, Carey Hughes, Wesley Hughes, Shane Hughes, Philip Todd, Larry Hitchcock, Charlie Brown and Charles Danner serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tennessee Highway Patrol Retired Officers.

Visitation with the family will be held from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home then again from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012 at First United Methodist Church.
