Qualifying Rutherford countians only have until today, Oct. 6, to register to vote in the November election, and registered voters have until Monday, Oct. 27, to update current addresses.

With only a little time left to register, voters are filing in droves with the election commission processing between 250-300 forms a day, mostly from previously unregistered voters, explained Hooper Penuel, Rutherford County elections administrator.

“We’ve had a lot of walk-ins today and Monday will be busy as well,” Penuel said.

Rutherford County currently boasts 141,459 registered voters, as of Friday.

That’s more than 20,000 new voters over the 2004 Presidential election.

If you still haven’t registered, mail-in registrations must be postmarked by Oct. 6 to be valid.

To register to vote, contact the Election Commission at 898-7743 or visit www.rutherfordcountytn.gov/election/index.htm for more information.

Say, Hooper, can ya tell us if those "droves" are mostly Republican or Democrat droves? It would be nice to know how many head of cattle we have movin' in on the range.

In Tennessee, voters do not register with a party affiliation. They only register for the opportunity to cast a ballot in elections.
