Three men armed with a handgun robbed the assistant manager and two companions early Tuesday outside the Carmike Cinema on Cason Square Boulevard, Murfreesboro Police reported.
The woman manager and two men were leaving the theater about 1 a.m. when three men approached and asked to use a cell phone, Officer Joshua Meredith reported. When he finished using the phone, he pulled out a small semi-automatic handgun.
“All of the suspects began demanding that the victims get on the ground,” Meredith reported. “The victims also advised that they told the two male victims to undress.”
While lying on the ground, one suspect struck one man in the face and back of his head with his fists, the officer reported.
The robbers took a cell phone, $96 cash and the car keys from one man, a Red Sox jersey, hat, car keys shoes and a yellow and silver colored gem bracelet from the second man.
They entered one man’s vehicle but apparently didn’t steal anything. They left in a mid-sized maroon four-door car.
The victims described the suspects as three black men. The man armed with the handgun wore a red hat and white T-shirt. The second man wore a white T-shirt. He had braids that extended past his ears. The third man wore a black shirt and covered his face with a black bandana.
People who have information about the robbers may call the Criminal Investigations Division at 893-2717.

Why dont Rutherford county give out large rewards to other criminals to turn over there own that commit all theses crimes?
They might have better luck at catching them,Because Rutherford county shows us all that they dont trust there own law abiding citazens.

Be weary of anyone wanting to borrow a cell phone, lighter, etc...There have been at least 3 robberies in the last week that began with the same method.
Be aware of your surroundings and stay in pairs as often as possible. These robberies all involve black males in numbers of three or four and have been on all sides of town. Northfield area, cason lane area, etc....dont be a sitting duck.

The thugs are taking over. This is ouitrageous. About time these mopes start getting some hard time in some very unpleasant places and it times for repeaters to go away for 25 (minimum) to life. Screw the plea bargins.

Its easy to see that Antioch's finest are migrating this direction. Of course if you ask JG13 there are no crimes in Murfreesboro.

I thought this town was safe? All today's articles are about robberies.
When the current Nashville police chief took over he made a comment. He said that he did not care where the criminals went they just weren't going to be in Nashville. Looks like it's working.
I'm not saying these guys are from Nashville, it just seems to be that way lately.

Another example why you need a carry permit in the Boro where SOME PEOPLE SAY CRIME DOSEN'T HAPPEN.

Just one of the simple explanations of increasing crime in Murfreesboro, is it's increased population. I don't think its fair to be making the assumption they're coming in from Antioch or Nashville, not without actually knowing who they are.
Increasing police presence would definitely help, but again we might have to have our taxes increased to compensate for the salaries of added patrol. Are we willing?
Thieves are definitely becoming bolder. No doubt. Having guns would not have helped the victims, so long as the robbers pulled theirs out first. By the time the robbers were done undressing them and even stealing the victim's clothing, they could have taken the guns also.

I would happily pay a few more taxes to feel safe in my hometown.

Mzzle you should show your support for police on every corner with a healthy money injection to the city and county goverment and we will see if your idea works until then we have carry permits.

abide,
Police presence is how Giuliani changed New York from being in the Top 10 most dangerous cities to one of the safest. I would be more than happy to pay a tax increase to bolster our police force. It's been proven over and over again that police presence has a firm and lasting impact on deterring crime.
And it's safe.
And rest your twitchy soul, abide. I'm not suggesting anyone come and take our guns or our permits. Relax.

I don't understand why they would have to raise taxes to put more cops out here. The population has increased a lot, so therefore the tax revenue has increased for the city. Plus we already pay an additonal .5% sales tax in Murfreesboro. Hopefully they will open that second police station in blackman like they were talking about because crime has spiked a lot this year

Taxes would have to be raised in order to add additional patrol on our streets.
The population may have increased, overall the tax revenue has decreased.
Two reasons for decreased tax revenue:
1)consumer spending down
2)unemployment rate high
Now about our police officers firing a weapon and missing their target. Maybe two stories have surfaced about police firing a weapon and missing the intended target.
That statistic must exclude the other police forces in other cities across the United States. The officers who aim, fire and stop the target.
Then only stories I have read are individuals insisting on being able to carry a weapon.
Out of those insisting on a carrying a weapon, how many are educated, trained and informed well enough to use them?

Mzzle knows exactly what they're talking about. Police presence does deter crime. Observe traffic when there's a police officer in sight. Let's not compare apples to oranges here. Police officers have much more extensive training and education than a gun permit holder who only needs to spend a few hours on a simple written test and on a shooting range. As easy as getting a driver's license (and the same location too, I understand).

No. 6: Tennessee
Tennessee residents might sing about love for country and neighbor, but lag behind in showing it. The state earns the No. 3 slot for most assaults.
No. 3 slot for the most assaults. Why does this not surprise me?

Pretend is not in my vocabulary.
Now MBPISAJOKE, 1)Unless you are a police officer, a detective or a technician in a crime lab in Nashville or any other town, 2)Unless you have proof from where, when and whose weapons these bullets derive from, then facts are fictious.
The statistics of a police officer firing and missing target versus a legal permit holder firing and missing target are irrelovant.
Honestly, I have never heard of a legal permit holder using a weapon and missing for two reasons,1)the target/victim was at close range or 2)seems more comfortable to talk about carrying a weapon in this forum than actually out in public using the weapon.
Numerous, unjustified reasons inhibit the desires to legally carry a weapon.
What is unfortunate, the information you gave leaves the question of how well a person is a trained, educated and informed. Definitely on the weapon they will carry legally.
Based solely on the information you have provided, the general public should fear for their safety. Especially in the event a weapon was used.
First, wonderful that you have fifty hours of training. Second, nice to know you practice on the weekends.
Since you have a handgun, how many different types of handguns are there? What other kind of guns are out there? Mechanisms? What are they for. On Target is great, there is no comparison to an All Credential Firearm Academy for military and police.
I would not feel safe in a bank with a person that has experience with a shotgun, autocannon, etc. to turn around and have you pull out a revolver.
There is no assumptions to be made here. Not one indication that people who choose to defend themselves is a deranged lunatic.
Simply put, ignorance will be what gets innocent people killed. These carry permits and derringers are no match for experienced killers with machine guns and artillerry.

"a gun permit holder who only needs to spend a few hours on a simple written test and on a shooting range. As easy as getting a driver's license (and the same location too, I understand)."
http://www.state.tn.us/safety/handgun/generalinfo.htm
Applications for a new handgun carry permit may be picked up at any Driver Service Center location.
Applications for a new handgun carry permit can be processed at any full service Driver Service Center location.
1340-2-3-.05 HANDGUN SAFETY COURSE REQUIREMENTS.
(1) Each Handgun Safety Course shall consist of two (2) separate but inter-related areas of instruction;
classroom instruction and firing range instruction.
(2) The Handgun Safety Course shall be a minimum of eight (8) hours in length, including a ten (10)
minute break per hour.
(a) The classroom instruction shall be a minimum of four (4) hours; and,
(b) The firing range instruction shall be a minimum of four (4) hours
I meant to imply the process was as easy as getting a driver's license, and applications/renewals be obtained at a driver service center. I did NOT say the firing ranges were located at or even that the written tests could be taken at these centers. I apologize if my comment was left open to misinterpretation. Let's clear that up now.
"Lets not pretend, neither of you have any education whatsoever on handguns and know exactly zero about owning, firing, or training with one"
You're correct that I know nothing about physically firing a handgun. That is my choice and personal. There is no place in my life for a handgun at the moment. With young teens in my household, I wouldn't feel any more confident with a locked up weapon, than I would with a locked up liquor cabinet. My idiot guy didn't have the common sense to remove his own gun from the glove compartment of his truck, before he let my teens behind the wheel.
You're incorrect that I have no education on handguns in any other aspect. Anyone that wants to educate themselves on any part of the process beginning with how to obtain a handgun permit is capable of doing so. I make no pretense of anything.
I commend you for practicing regularly. I believe you should. As with anything else, use it or lose it. But for each of you who do, there remain others who are satisfied with only completing the minimum requirements. I may be wrong, but I don't believe police officers are afforded such a choice. It appears that continuing practice, training and education would be part of their job.
Ironically and just my personal observance, it appears Thunder Ranch is appropriately based where it's needed for certain, with Nevada being named as the No. 1 dangerous state.
"Ok, well I'm waiting on you to show me JUST ONE story where an ignorant permit holder anywhere in the U.S. has cost others their lives by hitting them in crossfire or causing the assailant to shoot them. I won't hold my breath."
You named me in this challenge:
I challenge you to show me a story from around here where a legal permit holder has fired and hit an unintended target.
Why? Did "I" make any claims otherwise?

Well, proponents of tighter gun laws finally have their Exhibit A. In the Memphis suburb of Cordova, a guy in a Hummer got into an argument with a guy in a Yukon Denali outside an Italian restaurant. One giant SUV was parked too close to the other. So the guy in the Hummer went back to his car, came back with his gun and killed the other guy with a point-blank bullet to the chest, police say.
Ray Coleman, who has owned a state permit to carry a handgun since 2006, is charged with second-degree murder. "While maintaining his innocence," his lawyer says, "he's regretful and sorry that the man lost his life."
Was anyone in this man's line of fire? Let the people who were there determine if he endangered their lives, despite obviously aiming for his target.
http://www.vpc.org/studies/ccw2009.pdf
State-by-state factual stories. Please read. You will also note instances where some of these gun-permit holder/murderers should never have been able to renew these permits. Were they indeed lunatics? No doubt, a few bad apples shouldn't set the standards for all the good ones.
Idling at a red traffic light on Main & University near Central Middle School sometime last year -- with my children in the car -- gunshots went off. How near? From whom? We beelined out of there without even knowing what direction the shots were being fired from. By the time we returned safely home, news of driveby shootings was circulating. By then, the police were present, and of course the shootings ceased.
All I'm basically advocating here, which you likewise agreed with is that police presence definitely deters crime.

I have been in Murfreesboro for 7 years and I decided to get my carry permit last year. Robberies, home break-ins, and other gun related offenses make the headlines on the Post and DNJ everyday. Very sad to see such a nice town become dominated by the gangs and other criminals. It is about time for the City to become vocal about what they are going to do to address the increasing crime problem. However, I know that I will not become a victim- and I strongly urge others who are able to take the same stance...get a permit and protect yourself. YOU have a right to protect the one life that you recieve here on Earth...no cop can protect it for you. And no one should take that right away from you.
