More than 2,700 runners and walkers participated in the 3rd Annual Special Kids Race on last Saturday at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic in Murfreesboro.
“We were thrilled by the turnout,” said Ginger Spencer, Special Kids Director of Marketing. “By the time the runners started this morning, the event had already raised over $156,000. We’re excited to see that number continue to climb to help the kids.”
The third annual event presented by Murfreesboro Medical Clinic offered a 15K, 5K, and 1 Mile distance for participants to run. The 15K and 5K stretched down Old Nashville Hwy and the 1 Mile looped around the Gateway Island behind the medical clinic. Several families served by Special Kids were in attendance including the face of the Special Kids Race, Ruby Fournier.
“On behalf of the families at Special Kids, thank you,” said Ruby’s mother Lindsey Fournier as she addressed the participants before the start of the race. “We are so fortunate to have a place like Special Kids in our community that helps children get the nursing and rehab care they need.”
In 2013, the run raised over $175,000 to help children with special needs served at Special Kids. Event organizers are hoping to top that number once this year’s event is tallied.
