MAJORS (11-12 year-olds)

Mets 10, Orioles 8

The National Division champion Mets stormed out to a 7-2 lead and held off a furious Orioles comeback to secure a 10-8 win in the Majors Championship game.

Travis Odem recorded a strike out with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the save and starting pitcher Chris Johnson registered the win.

Jacob Watts had the big blast for the Mets, supplying a two-run home run in the fifth that proved to be the difference. Odem was 2-for-2 with a double, triple and two runs scored for the Mets.

Eric Hawks was 2-for-3 with a triple, double and three runs scored to pace the Orioles. Elijah Montgomery’s bases-clearing triple in the third breathed life back into the Birds and cut the deficit to 7-5.

After holding the Mets in the fourth, the Orioles closed to within 7-6 in the bottom of the inning after Hawks tripled and scored on Austin Davenport’s two-out single;  however, Watts belted the two-run home run in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-6. The Orioles came back with a single run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Mets got a big insurance run in the top of the sixth when Odem tripled and later scored.

The Orioles battled back in the final inning when Jamiles Sims singled and eventually came around to score. The Birds had the tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t complete the riveting comeback.

MINORS (10-11 year-olds)

Cubs 11, Mariners 10

The Cubs and Mariners have been the top teams  in their respective divisions all season and each of the teams demonstrated why in an intense championship showdown that required extra innings.

The Cubs’ Jordan Christmon doubled and scored on Michael Leija’s single in the seventh inning to secure the victory and Minors championship.

It marked the 16th consecutive victory for the Cubs.

Joseph Tucker (2-for-3, double, two runs scored, two RBI), Cole Diamond (2-for-3, RBI) and Leija (2-for-3, triple, three RBI) had multi-hit games for the Cubs. Josh Harrell (triple) and Caleb Dickerson (triple) also had extra-base hits in the Cubs’ championship effort.

Gage Stephens was 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored and John Meyers also belted a home run for the Mariners, who also had multi-hit games from Andrew Arnold (2-for-3) and Alex Cassidy (3-for-3). Kaleb Hallauer also had a triple for the Mariners.

The Cubs used a six-run second to take the early lead but the Mariners continued to battle and came back to take a 10-8 lead into the fifth. The Cubs added two runs in the fifth to even the score before the teams battled to extra innings.

JUNIORS (13-15 year-olds)

Dodgers 9, Royals 1

The Dodgers jumped out to an 8-1 lead after just three innings and never looked back as they claimed the Juniors championship in convincing fashion.

Drew Gossett scattered six hits to earn the victory on the mound. He gave up one run in the first and was sharp the remainder of the way to guide the Dodgers’ championship effort.

Several Dodgers got in on the offensive act. Jared Anderson and Kevin Groogan each had two hits in the win. Josh Harper, Drew Gossett, Bryson Hammrich, Justin Morton and Tyler Player also had key hits for the Dodgers.

Matt Manda singled and scored on Cainan Brandon’s two-out single in the top of the first to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. Sam Hawkins was the only Royal with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3.

COACH-PITCH (7-8 year-olds)

Red Sox 12, Reds 8

The Red Sox continued their pursuit of perfection with a 12-8 win against the Reds in the Coach-Pitch championship. The Red Sox improved to 17-0 but not before the Reds put up a fight.

The Red Sox scored six in the bottom of the first to seemingly take control; however, the Reds came off of the deck with five in the top of the second to get back in the game.

A four-run third by the Red Sox proved too much to overcome in the end.

Sawyer Watts (3-for-3, triple, two doubles, three runs scored) and Jacob Crabill (3-for-3, two doubles, two runs scored) led the Red Sox hit parade. Tripp Knitter was 3-for-3 and Carlyle Mcafee, Jack Brewer, Luke McFarland and Caleb Marks each had two hits for the Red Sox.

Jackson Phillips was 2-for-3 with a home run and a double, and DeVarious Robinson was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored for the Reds. Isaiah Dickerson, Ian Schlacter and Richard Peppers each had two hits for the Reds.
