Does your neighbor have beautiful holiday lights?
Yep, it’s time for the Murfreesboro Post’s annual Holiday Brites event. Ol, Hammerhaid is already out there searching for them. Hammerhaid was feeling pretty proud of his own Christmas decorations ... until he visited the kids on Monday.
It was about 6 p.m. when he gave up the ghost ... the ghost of Christmas past that is.
He jetted up to their house with pride in his heart, which soon changed to gasps of amazement.
“Look at that wreath on the door. Isn’t it the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen?” gasped Betty Lou.
It was, H-haid had to admit, pretty $&^% dazzling. It was like a wreath within a wreath covered with a huge bow. It was amazing.
After soaking that in, the H-man and crew were allowed in the front door and into an alcove of sorts.
Wow, the normal baby portrait had been switched into a beautiful holiday frame which was “framed” by a reindeer and a cloth covered tree that was lit from inside. “Ah-h-h-h, you would have to see it,” Hammerhaid said.
Hanging high overhead was a train of light and another huge wreathe, flickering with white light.
In the low light, it was beautiful like something you would see at Opryland.
Betty Lou dashed around the corner, while H-haid checked out the stairway, which was draped with evergreen wrappings, which was covered with lights, ribbon and the whole nine yards. Even the kids’ dogs seemed bedazzled.
He heard the yips and yaps from Betty Lou who had headed straight for the Christmas tree, so he avoided it by going up the opposite side of the living room. But beauty abounded there as well. A Christmas train framed by lit evergreens bedecked a counter of a thing.
Then there was the fireplace.
Hammerhaid had visualized the decorations for it earlier ... evergreen lit with tiny white lights.
But his vision fell short of what the kids achieved with the help of Craig’s mom.
It was outstanding ... breath-taking ... with lights, bunches of red berries and butterflies. It was a work of art.
Finally, he turned to face the tree.
It was incredible, a tour-de-force. The 12-footer was covered with perfectly arranged ornaments of all shapes and sizes ranging from tiny to big holiday dolls. It was amazing. The best ol’ Christmas tree nut Hammerhaid had ever seen. Nothing, not even the famous trees at Opryland could touch it.
Eventually, he was forced into the dining room where the light fixture had been transformed into an evergreen chandelier. Amazingly beautiful.
For once Hammerhaid was speechless. As usual, he had forgotten his camera, but he grabbed one and begin to fire off the shots.
Try as he might, the photos just didn’t do the scene justice. Oh, the photos were great ... colorful, in focus, nice and clear ... but they just didn’t catch the serene holiday spirit of their display.
Hammerhaid’s attention returned to the tree as he listened to Craig’s mom tell how she selected items for the tree. But it wasn’t the items, it was the way they were arranged that made the tree absolutely stunning. But the best was saved for the last.
They all ran into the little girl’s room where the most beautiful tiny tree was arranged on a mound of snow.
Just like the 12-footer, the little tree was covered with things that caught your eye, but suddenly the tree burst into song as the two dolls on it began to sing a bright holiday song.
Absolutely amazing. What a December it will be.
