The Edge: New bakery set to open next to Demos

Pam Rieben is preparing to open her own bakery called Ganache Desserts at 1103 N.W. Broad St., Suite B, next to Demos’ Restaurant. “It is going to be desserts made from scratch,” she said of her bakery set to open early next year. The shop will feature cookies, brownies, cupcakes, tarts and butter cream frosting. “It is just something that I have always wanted to do,” Rieben said of opening her own shop. She has baked for family and friends for some 25 years. “It is a complete change of career for me,” she said. Before starting work on her shop, Rieben worked as a medical technologist. Rieben said what will make her shop special is that everything is made from scratch. Nothing is frozen or made from mixes. “There are few places where you can get that,” she said. “I think it makes a huge difference in the way it tastes.” Rieben’s butter cream frosting is perhaps her specialty, she said. Her frosting is baked and isn’t as sweet as many types of frostings. ••• Things Remembered, a leading personalized gift retailer, will open a new store at the Stones River Mall Oct. 9.
