Fast Break Espresso, a drive-through coffee stand, is now open near Toot’s at 840 N.W. Broad St.

Owner Susan Holcomb is offering a wide variety of drinks, breakfast foods and snacks at the coffee stand. Fast Break sells “all kinds of coffees,” she said, from espressos and lattes to candy bar-flavored coffees. Other beverages include Chai teas, frozen hot chocolate and Italian soda.

Food items include pastries, Yum Yum doughnuts, Christie Cookies, biscotti, muffins, bagels and sausage, ham or bacon breakfast sandwiches.

Fast Break Espresso is designed to provide a convenient place for motorists along Northwest Broad Street and Medical Center Parkway to get a cup of coffee and something quick to eat on the way to work, Holcomb said.

Holcomb said she has wanted to open her own coffee stand for about seven years. She grew up around the industry as her sister runs a coffee stand in Washington.

Hours of operation have yet to be determined, but as of right now Fast Break is open seven days a week beginning around 6 a.m. Holcomb said she is testing out keeping the coffee stand open until 9 p.m.

Menu items also will likely be expanded in the future. Holcomb said she wants to poll her customers and the community to see want they would like her to offer for lunch.

For a limited time, customers will receive a free Yum Yum doughnut with the purchase of one item.

Kroger stores in Rutherford County are holding a school supply drive through Aug. 8 to help support Rutherford County area schools. Customers are encouraged to place donations in the special drop-off bins at the front of every store.

“We are very excited to be able to support our schools in this way,” said Steve Grimsley, store manager at the Lascassas Pike Kroger. “Every year teachers are forced to dip into their own pockets to buy classroom supplies for students with the greatest need. We hope to collect enough supplies to where that won’t be necessary this year.”

Most needed items include crayons, dry erase markers, erasers, pencils, pens, rulers, glue, scissors, binders, hand sanitizer and notebook paper.

Kroger is one of the nation’s largest retail grocery chains. The company operates more than 60 stores in Middle Tennessee. K-12 education is a key focus area of giving for Kroger. Through the gift card fundraising program that is available for K-12 accredited schools, approximately $1 million dollars was awarded last year in Middle Tennessee.

For more information about this program, call 1-800-331-5304, ext. 34707.

Go figure. I drove half-way cross town to give the new business some business. But, the breakfast place featured in the Sunday paper is not open for breakfast on Sunday.
