Tennessee Primary Care Association to hold annual conference this week

Dr. Donald L. Weaver will be the keynote speaker at the Tennessee Primary Care Association’s annual Clinical Conference July 29 in Murfreesboro.

He is the Assistant Surgeon General for the United States Public Health Service and acting Director of the Office of Special Health Affairs in the Health Resources and Services Administration.
 
As acting director of the Office of Special Health Affairs (OSHA), Dr. Weaver leads three offices: the Office of Health Equity, the Office of Global Health Affairs, and the Office of Strategic Priorities. Health equity focuses on eliminating health disparities. Global health affairs advances HRSA’s global reach and acts as the HRSA liaison with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Strategic Priorities serves as the principal advisor to the HRSA Administrator on major health priorities including, but not limited to oral and behavioral health. OSHA collaborates with other departmental and Federal agencies and helps build public-private partnerships to improve the health of underserved communities and vulnerable populations.
 
“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Weaver to Tennessee,” said Kathy Wood-Dobbins, CEO of TPCA. “He is a remarkable leader in public health care.”
 
Other health care leaders in attendance include TN State Representative Joe Pitts, TennCare’s Director and Deputy Commissioner for the state Department of Finance and Administration Darin Gordon, and Commissioner of the state Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Virginia Trotter Betts.
