"Developers are arguing the tax increment financing will allow them to capture the local taxes for up to 30 years."
uh...I think that means that the taxpayers are indeed "paying" for the park...Any taxes that the developers recapture is lost revenue to the county...

What's really up w/Bar-Tur wanting to develop something here that wouldn't be feasible w/o tax support?
What's up w/any elected official who'd support it? If it's such a good deal, why is there no other county or city in this entire country competing for it?
And what twisted logic can define any TAX increment--the incremental increase in TAX revenue--as anything other than TAXpayers' dollars? Where does the TIF revenue come from if not from taxpayers? Tourists are still taxpayers, and once they leave their tax dollars here, those dollars belong to every resident of Rutherford County. That's the nature of tax dollars.
And with tax dollars going to support this thing, we're entitled to ask--and have answered--this question:
What do Rutherford County taxpayers get in return for foregoing access to all of the revenue from developing this property?
What, exactly, is the benefit to Rutherford County residents as a whole? A few jobs for a few hundred folks? I'm all for new jobs in the county, but if tax dollars are to be spent to create them, then I want something a whole lot better than theme park jobs. I had one of those when I was a teenager. They are not worth any expenditure of public funds. Surely we can do better than that.
