 If you need a break from Christmas shopping, take the kids to Discovery Center at Murfree Spring Holiday Open House from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Discovery Center, 502 S.E. Broad Street.

Fun with Santa

Santa Claus is making a few special stops in Murfreesboro before he tours town on the Santa Express, as part of Santa in the Neighborhood.

First, he’ll be at the annual Rutherford County Christmas Tree Lighting at 6 p.m. Friday on the Murfreesboro Public Square.

The festivities will also include choral and dance performances. Downtown merchants and restaurants will be open to welcome guests. Visit www.downtownmurfreesboro.com/ for more information.

Then Santa will make an appearance at Pancake Breakfast with Santa at 8 a.m. Saturday at Buchanan Elementary School.

Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. Email buchanan_pto@yahoo.com for more info. And don’t forget to bring your cameras.

Santa will then hurry over to the "Breakfast with Santa" fundraiser for The Master's Touch Christian Academy in Smyrna.

Breakfast is served for 8-11 a.m.  Saturday at the Smyrna Presbyterian Church, 540 Sam Ridley Pkwy. Smyrna.

Santa will be available for photographs and will take wish lists from all the good girls and boys (Naughty need not apply).

Children can also make Christmas ornaments to take home and visit the Little Elf Shoppe to buy gifts for their siblings and parents.

The Master’s Touch Christian Academy provides a Christian education for special-needs children.

Tickets are available at the door $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Theater

Adapted by Richard Northcutt for the Center for the Arts from the classic story by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Christmas favorite gives new life to the classic characters of Scrooge and Tiny Tim to help families understand the true meaning of Christmas.

The center is located at 110 West College St., Murfreesboro.

You’ve likely seen the movie, but unexpected humor happens when a 1940’s radio troupe performs the show before a live audience.

Held at the Lamplighter’s Theatre, 14119 Old Nashville Hwy. in Smyrna, It’s a Wonderful Life: The Radio Play gives a new take on a classic Christmas story.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.

Oaklands Historic House Museum

First the Oaklands Association will hold its annual membership gala Christmas party and silent auction at 6 p.m. Friday.

All proceeds benefit the Oaklands Historic House Museum.

Then you can usher  in the holiday season with an enchanting tour of historic homes with the annual Oaklands Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes is held from 4-8 p.m. Saturday.

The tour, sponsored by the Oakland Association, features beautiful and historic homes and the graceful Oaklands Historic House Museum.

Set in the historic district of Murfreesboro, stops along the tour will be festively adorned historical homes and churches dressed in holly and evergreens.

The Sons of the Confederate Vetrens, Murfreesboro Camp No. 33 will present living history demonstrations on the lawn of the mansion.

High School Sport Championships

TSSAA BlueCross Bowl, the Division 1 High School Football Championships, will be held at MTSU Floyd Stadium Friday and Saturday.

TSSAA Cheerleading Championships will be held in MTSU’s Murphy Center Saturday.

Tennessee State High School Dance Competition is Friday in Murphy Center.

Remembrance Service

Woodfin Memorial Chapel, 1488 Lascassas Pike, holds a Remembrance Service at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The service is designed to honor and remember the saints in our life who have passed away.

The Stones River Church in Murfreesboro invites the community to celebrate our Christ’s birth with the Christmas musical Come in Grace and Glory at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Sloan's Motorcycle & ATV Supercenter, 2233 NW Broad St., holds a Titan’s Game Day Package Raffle to benefit Rutherford County Resident David Laws.

The Titan's Raffle Winner will be drawn at 10 a.m. Saturday, so get there early to get your ticket.

Raffle tickets are $5 and enters you to win two north end zone seats on the lower level for the last home game, Sunday Dec. 21 against the Pittsburg Steelers.

The Game day Package includes a $50 gift certificate to Piranha’s Bar and Grill in Nashville and accommodations at Downtown Nashville’s Doubletree Hotel.
