Two suspects were accused of abducting an 18-year-old man at gunpoint over stolen marijuana Saturday at a University Gables apartment on South Rutherford Boulevard, Murfreesboro Police reported.

Suspects Carlos D. Dixon, 24, of 2827 S. Rutherford Blvd., was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated robbery and Leuverti Harden, 21, of Memphis, was charged with assault, Detective Tannas Knox reported. Dixon was listed as an MTSU student.

Officer Chris Pitts reported a witness told him he was staying at friend Lucas Coleman’s apartment on University Gables when someone knocked on the door about 1:30 p.m.

One man pushed a gun into Coleman’s face and asked about marijuana Coleman allegedly stole from the man and began to assault him, Pitts reported.

When the friend tried to help, the other men held him at gunpoint but later allowed him to leave and call for help.

Through their investigation, police found Coleman being held in another apartment with four men inside.

“Coleman advised that he was assault at Apartment 1211, then forced to go to the ATM at Bank of America on Middle Tennessee Boulevard where he withdrew $200 for the subject that he knows as ‘Los,’” Pitts reported. “‘Los’ took an additional $75 from Mr. Coleman and took him back to Apartment 1412.”

At one point, Coleman stated the suspects planned to release him but saw the police and made him stay in the apartment, the officer reported.

Police searched the apartment where they located a stolen 9mm Ruger handgun, a large sum of cash, marijuana growing in a bedroom closet and a set of bulletproof vests, similar to those worn by police officers.

Detectives Knox, Mike Taylor and Abe Vongphakdy collected evidence. Other officers took the suspects to the police department for interviews.

Police spokesman Kyle Evans said the suspects face possible additional charges of kidnapping, fraud, possession of counterfeit money, possession of a stolen handgun and possession of marijuana.

“We found many stolen credit cards and we’re looking into fraudulent use of credit cards in addition to the charges,” Evans said.

Police will work with the U.S. Secret Service to determine if there is a connection between the suspects and a recent rash of counterfeit bills being passed in Murfreesboro, Evans said.

Dixon and Harden were booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing is set Oct. 29 in General Sessions Court.
