Eric Dennison and Robert Lee "Zak" Hunt were charged in a bomb threaten called in to Oakland High School Tuesday.

Two suspects were charged with making a bomb threat Tuesday directed at Oakland High School, according to a Rutherford County Sheriff's Office press release.

School Resource Officer Capt. Barry Hendrixson and Oakland High School SRO David Crim charged Robert Lee “Zak” Hunt Jr., 22, with two counts of felony filing a false report, possession of a weapon with intent to go armed, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Crim charged co-defendant Eric Dennison, 18, was also charged with two counts of felony conspiracy to file a false report.

As a precaution, school officials evacuated the school and located students on the football field while law enforcement officers searched the school. Also nearby Oakland Middle and John Pittard Elementary schools were placed on alter. Classes resumed Tuesday afternoon after law enforcement officials determined there was no threat.

Acting on a tip, Hendrixson and Detective Troy Hooker located the suspects and brought them to the Sheriff’s Office where Hooker questioned them Tuesday afternoon.

They were booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, and hearings have been scheduled for Sept. 14 in General Sessions Court.

Sheriff Robert F. Arnold said he hopes the arrests will deter similar threats in the future.

“Safety of our students is a top priority for the school resource officers and the Sheriff’s Office,” Arnold said.

Arnold said he appreciated the Murfreesboro Police Department, Emergency Medical Services paramedics and Emergency Management Agency officials working with Rutherford County Schools and the Sheriff’s Office to handle the situation safely.

“Everybody worked well together,” Arnold said. “Everyone was safe.”
