Twenty-one-year-old Justin McCullough was shot just before 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of Wenlon Drive, located near Ashwood Cove Apartments.
“One person was shot multiple times inside the residence,” said Capt. Nathan McDaniel with the Murfreesboro Police Department, during a brief interview Thursday at the scene.
Detectives believe the suspect fled the scene in a white, four-door vehicle, McDaniel said.
“The suspect is on the loose,” he said.
Witnesses described the suspect as a 6-foot tall black male who was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt at the time of the incident.
“After I heard shots, I saw a guy run toward the entrance of Ashwood Cove,” said a male witness, who wished not to be named due to safety concerns. “I moved out of Nashville to get away from this … these kids need to straighten up around here.”
Police Department spokesman Kyle Evans said McCullough “sustained serious injuries and was shot multiple times in different locations on his body,” adding further information about his condition was not available.
Police released the incident report Friday filed by Officer Christopher Wilkins, who responded to the scene at 9:43 p.m.
“Upon my arrival, I made contact with the complainant,” Wilkins reported. “(He) stated he heard five shots and then saw an unknown black male running toward Pitts Lane and Ashwood Cove Apartments.”
Wilkins reported the witness said the suspect “appeared to be concealing something under his shirt.”
However, Evans said additional details would not be made public about the investigation, which has been classified as an attempted homicide.
