Suspect charged with raping 12-year-old girl | Child rape, Anthony M. Carney

Anthony Carney
A 19-year-old man was charged with twice raping a 12-year-old girl and fondling her Jan. 30, a Murfreesboro Police detective said.

Anthony M. Carney of Huntington Drive was charged with two counts of rape of a child and one count of aggravated sexual battery of the girl by Detective Tommy Roberts.

The girl told Roberts she met Carney a few weeks ago and he identified himself as Anthony Smith. He came to her home Jan. 30 and told her he had a Valentine’s Day present for her.

She allowed him to come inside with her mother and brother asleep upstairs.

They engaged in sexual conduct twice during his visit, the detective reported.

The girl met with Roberts and described the suspect. Roberts’ investigation showed the suspect’s last name was Carney. Roberts contacted the suspect who agreed to come to the police department for questioning. After an interview, Roberts charged him.

Carney was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where his bond was set at $45,000 bond. A hearing was scheduled March 11 in General Sessions Court.

rt260a - what an ignorant remark. She is 12 and he is 19...it is clearly against the law.

I’m going to say this one time and one time only; In this day and age according to law it is never correct willing or unwilling to have sex with an eleven year old girl. There are millions upon millions of women in the world why would he even do something like that. He’s an adult and she’s a child, no matter what the situation was he influenced her to some extent and that influence is illegal. Don’t get me wrong I’m not putting all the blame on the man because let’s be honest in her parents house? She obviously had intention. However I am also a firm believer that penalties should vary based on true forced rape and cases as such that we’re obviously mutual between the two. People who disagree with that, think about it in the past it was nothing uncommon about the issue nor is it uncommon in other countries and cultures but because of our own social norms it has become illegal. It is completely understandable for that to be true because manipulating a minor and taking his/her innocence is never right. So yes he should be charged but to put this young man under the jail is totally ridiculous & this is coming from a nineteen year old as well.
