One suspect was charged with first-degree murder of a victim who was shot about 11 p.m. Monday on Bradyville Pike and South Baird Lane, the Murfreesboro Police spokesman said.

Suspect Clifton Williams, 28, of South Baird Lane was charged with first-degree murder of Daniel M. Greenwell Cartwright, 21, of Nashville, reported spokesman Kyle Evans.

This was the first murder reported this year in Murfreesboro.

Officers were called to the intersection for the sound of multiple gunshots.

When officers arrived, they found Cartwright who was shot at least one time. Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Few witnesses have come forward with information regarding the shooting.
Investigators are looking for a white van with damage on the driver's side door as it was seen leaving the area immediately after the shots were fired.

Detectives developed Williams as a suspect. He was taken to Murfreesboro Police Department for an interview. Detective Ed Gorham charged him with murder and booked him in about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where he is being held. A hearing is pending in General Sessions Court.

“Investigators are still working on the details and circumstances surrounding the homicide, therefore no further information will be released at this time,” Evans said.

“Detective Lt. Nathan McDaniel and Detectives Ed Gorham and Richard Presley did a good job investigating this case,” Evans said.
