A suspect accused of stealing chains off a swing set where a 9-week-old girl died from the tornado was charged with theft Thursday, Murfreesboro Police reported.

Officer Curtis Brinkley charged suspect Mark Miller, 50, of 1011 Clover Drive with theft under $500 at 3:45 p.m., said police spokesman Kyle Evans.

“Miller was spotted by officers and witnesses taking chains off a swing set and loading other scrap metal from the yard at Haynes Drive and Sulphur Springs Road into his truck,” Evans reported.

The property is owned by John Bryant, whose wife, Kori, and 9-week-old daughter, Olivia, died from injuries suffered in the tornado. Their funeral services were held Thursday afternoon.

Miller was charged and taken to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where he was booked and held on $5,000 bond. His hearing is set June 18 in General Sessions Court.
