Enjoy chicken wings while helping Special Olympians compete in athletic events during the Wings and Rings fundraiser from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 31 at Toot’s restaurant on South Church Street. Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold and School Resource Officers will wait tables and some SROs will sing during the annual Wings and Rings fundraising event for Special Olympics. All proceeds benefit the Area 16 Special Olympics, including the annual Track and Field Meet April 7 for Special Olympians in Rutherford County and Murfreesboro city schools. Lou Paschall, who coordinates Special Olympics, said Wings and Rings is a fun fundraiser. “You join us at Toot's, purchase your meal, including tipping your server, and enjoy seeing lots of folks you know, the Toot's atmosphere and family friendly entertainment provided by the SROs,” Paschall said. “The SROs will assist in the serving with the Toot's staff in addition to singing and telling jokes. Each table will have an envelope for any contributions diners would like to make.” Paschall suggested the event would be a good time for an after-hours office get-together, a social gathering for teachers and families, a church social or a guys or girls night out. “It is a great opportunity to skip cooking, dishes and contribute to a great cause,” Paschall said. “This is a chance to help raise funds for activities for Special Olympics athletes in Area 16. We live in a wonderful community that has always supported Special Olympics athletes. Please continue this tradition and join us this year.” SRO Dick Peach coordinates the Law Enforcement Run where officers carry the Olympic torch from Central Magnet School to MTSU for the Track and Field meet. He will perform at the Wings and Rings event. “Mark your calendars and come out to our new place, enjoy a good meal, atmosphere, fellowship and ‘Happy Birthday’ singing,” Peach said. |
