It was a very hot weekend, which is appropriate for the start of summer in Middle Tennessee.
The heat of the days carried over into the night, breaking records on its way.
According to the National Weather Service, the low for Sunday, June 21 in Nashville was 79 degrees breaking the calendar day record for the warmest minimum temperature set previously in 1914 when the low was 78 degrees.
Murfresboro’s low Sunday night only dipped down to 73 degrees 9 ticks higher than the average low of 63 degrees,
The 79 degrees recorded on the morning of June 21 was the warmest calendar day minimum temperature in Nashville since 81 degrees on Aug. 21. The warmest calendar day temperature ever recorded in Nashville was back on July 14, 1954 when the morning low was 85 degrees.
The recent hot weather in Middle Tennessee can be blamed on subsidence underneath a strong upper-level high pressure area over the region.
The hot temperatures are expected to continue throughout the week with highs in the low to mid-90s and lows in the low 70s with only slight chances of rain Monday and Tuesday. |
