NASHVILLE - Health care reform is working for small businesses in Tennessee and nationwide, according to a new study.

Bernstein Research found that businesses with fewer than 10 employees were able to increase medical coverage, by 14 percent in the last year, because of tax breaks in the Affordable Care Act.

Tony Garr, Deputy Director for the Tennessee Health Care Campaign, says the tax credits are having a positive effect.

"Small employers have taken advantage of the new Affordable Care Act, and they're taking advantage of the tax credit; that puts us on the right road."

Garr says he isn't aware of any workable alternatives to the health care reforms passed earlier this year.

"I have not seen any details from the other side in regards to what are you going to do to help small employers. And I really think that's going to be core to us getting our country back on track."

The National Federation of Independent Business is pushing for repeal, and says companies with more than 50 employees could be heavily penalized for not providing coverage. But, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, only about 4 percent of all such U.S. companies could have to pay that fine.

If Obamacare is so good, why do so many people and business groups want it repealed, & why was it so negative for the dems in this month's elections? Are these "researchers" fronts for labor union
or liberal interest groups?

"Small employers have taken advantage of the new Affordable Care Act, and they're taking advantage of the tax credit; that puts us on the right road." What tax credit, how can you write an article and not explain the credits! Just another person who hasn't read the bill.

First of all, who or what is the Tennessee Health Care Campaign and what is their agenda? Why should we take their word for it without any idea of who or what they are? Because Randy O'Brien of the Tennessee News Service says we should? You can't be serious. Here is another issue that deserves questioning: "According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, only about 4 percent of all such U.S. companies could have to pay that fine."

Any study conducted by a federal government agency regarding an unpopular government program is suspect at best. Yet this SBA declaration is questioned by no one in the media, merely accepted and quoted as gospel. My suspicion is if this was the wonderful deal for small business it has been hyped to be by agenda-driven front groups, the government and elements of the liberal (who refuse to admit they are) media, small business owners would have figured it out by now. They are a pretty savvy bunch, can do a balance sheet and understand what is and what isn't good for business and the bottom line. They have been very successful at evaluating government "help," universally determining they would be better off with out it. They're right.

This article claims that Obamacare is helping the small business owners; I would like to disagree with the content of this article. Small businesses are what make different parts of Murfreesboro thrive, growing up here I always enjoyed walking around the square and seeing the little shops all around. I would hate to see the demise of such businesses due to the Obamacare plan. Although small businesses are able to increase medical coverage, this article does not explain what Obamacare is doing to HURT small businesses.
Although small businesses are increasing their medical coverage for employers, there are more health care costs, which are burdening the small businesses with more taxes and more fees under Obamacare. This article claims that the “tax credits “ are helping small businesses, but according to other studies- the small business tax credits that are helping small businesses currently are only a short term program; only lasting six years. Within this tax credit, the employer is burdened with paying at least fifty percent of the costs. This tax credit is also only available to businesses with twenty-five workers or less.
On top of the higher health care costs and the tax credits that will someday prove to be ineffective, if small businesses were to apply for these tax credits they would have to take on more administrative staff to handle the details. The phrase tax credit seems simple but administrative staff would be needed to handle the regulations and the tax compliant regulations.
