According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, today’s severe weather toppled trees in the northern part of the county.

Trees were downed on both Jefferson Pike and in the Valley View subdivision in the Lascassas area, RCSO spokeswoman Lisa Marchesoni said.

The National Weather Service issued several warnings throughout the mid-day, including one at 12:27 p.m. of a severe thunderstorm that headed toward Murfreesboro and another that passed over Walter Hill and Lascassas around 1 p.m.

Although the tornado warnings have expired, a wind advisory is still in effect until 4 p.m. and a tornado watch is in effect until 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for all of Middle Tennessee through 5 p.m.

The watch was issued in advance of an approaching cold front that will bring showers and thunderstorms to Middle Tennessee.

Scattered showers will move across the area ahead of the main line of storms. This main line entered northwestern Tennessee around 9 a.m. and continued to move into the mid-state.

Some thunderstorms may become severe and could produce damaging winds and possibly isolated tornadoes.

Additionally, a tight pressure gradient in advance of the approaching boundary will continue to cause elevated wind speeds across the mid-state. Expect sustained winds OF 20 TO 30 MPH along with gusts of up to 40 MPH.
