Update: National Weather Service said Wednesday morning's damage possibly caused by a tornado.

"From the damage reports and radar signatures it looks to  me like there may have been a tornado that went through rutherford county around 5:45 a.m. this morning," said Bobby Boyd, a meteorologist with the NWS.

Nashville International Airport reported 58 mph winds around 5 a.m. this morning. The storm then made its way into Rutherford County causing widespread damage.

The storm also dropped 1.5 to 2 inches overnight, Boyd said.

"The cloud was described as rotating and lowering," Boyd said about reports from the Murfreesboro Fire Department on South Rutherford Boulevard.

Earlier: Only one injury, but widespread property damage was reported after storms swept through Rutherford County Wednesday morning.

Unfortunately, more storms are on the way.

One person sustained minor injuries when a tree fell in on a trailer home this morning, Rutherford County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lisa Marchesoni said.

Trees and power lines were reported down across the county with the hardest hit areas in Rockvale, Barfield, Midland and Lascassas.

Volunteer fire departments and the county highway department were called in to help clear roads blocked by trees.

Murfreesboro Electric Department is working to repair downed lines and poles this morning.

"We have a lot of lines down and scattered outages," MED spokeswoman Amy Byers said, adding residents need to steer clear of downed power lines.

Some 12,000 to 15,000 customers are without power this morning, she said.

All MED repair crews are out repairing lines that were taken down by the storm. Byers stressed residents should not try to repair the lines themselves and to call 893-5514 to report outages and downed lines.

I am a sophomore at Middle Tennessee State University and I am thankful Murfreesboro did not get as much damage as other areas in the United States that got hit very bad. My parents live in a rural area and luckily lost trees that were not near any items of importance. Toots losing it's roof is unfortunate but I am glad there are no high numbers of deaths or issing persons that are reported here instead. Murfreesboro has been lucky throughout this weather! I'm sure everyone in this town knows how lucky we have all been to only lose minor things such as shingles and to those who did ose cars or houses, I as well as many others am praying for you! Being a collee town, I know alot of young people may have family who could have lost everything, and I would like them to know people are praying for you, and things will get better for you and your family!
