On Saturday, Sept. 1, Stones River National Battlefield will present programs that highlight the stories of Middle Tennessee confederates in the Battle of Stones River.
The men in gray from this area had more at stake than just victory or defeat at the end of 1862. If they failed to defeat the Union army, confederate soldiers from Middle Tennessee risked losing their homes, families, and everything they held dear to the invaders.
Visitors will have the chance to learn more about the motivations and experiences of the local soldiers while watching musket and cannon firing demonstrations.
After the programs, visitors are invited to try their hand at musket and cannon drill and join the soldiers in camp for some hand-on learning opportunities. Young visitors can earn Civil War to Civil Rights trading cards by completing these activities.
