Smyrna – On Tuesday, March 8 at 6 p.m., Robert Greenberg, M.D., will discuss the benefits and risks associated with total knee arthroplasty (knee replacement). A recent survey revealed that most of the knee replacement patients surveyed were living active lifestyles that included activities like swimming, biking and walking. At an average age of 84 years, 70 percent of patients surveyed said that they could walk the distance of five city blocks.
“Total knee replacements have repeatedly been shown to improve quality of life for those with debilitating knee pain, “said Dr. Greenberg, orthopaedic surgeon on staff at StoneCrest Medical Center. “About 90 percent of knee replacements performed on patients 60 years of age or older will last a lifetime.” Knee replacement surgery is often necessary for those whose knee joint has been damaged by arthritis or injury. More than half a million Americans have knee replacement surgery each year, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. To educate the community about knee replacement and other options for persistent knee pain, StoneCrest Medical Center is offering this free seminar. The seminar will be held in the StoneCrest Medical Center Classroom.
