Four suspects were charged with possession of weapons during a traffic stop Saturday on Interstate 24, a sheriff’s deputy reported.

Deputy Richard Brinkley was driving on I-24 when driver Michael A. Sichta passed him driving about 90 mph. Brinkley stopped the car and obtained a consent for he and Deputies Travis Perusse and Matthew Clagg to search the vehicle.

A loaded 9mm Ruger was found under the passenger’s seat and a 9mm handgun and a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun were found in the trunk, the deputy reported.

Sichta, 20, of Jackson owned the .380-caliber handgun and passenger Cortez D. Hall, 21, of Jackson owned the 9mm found in the trunk, Brinkley reported.

The men told Brinkley they needed to be armed for a trip to Chattanooga because of past incidents there.

Since no one claimed ownership of the handgun found under the seat, Brinkley charged Sichta, Hall and passengers Jarvis M. Vinson and Dennis R. Leman, 23, both of Jackson, with possession of a weapon.

The suspects were booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. Hearings are pending in General Sessions Court.

In another case, Cpl. Nathan Pagel reported victim Khamphanh Keomek of Aspen Ave. was treated at Middle Tennessee Medical Center after he was attacked about 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Reidhurst Drive.

Keomek suffered three cuts to his arm, a cut nose, broken front teeth and injured upper lip, the corporal reported.

The victim told Pagel the man who attacked him was an acquaintance but he didn’t know his name. Keomek accused the man of hitting him with his fist repeatedly until other people pulled him away.

Three guns equals a "stockpile of weapons?"

Sounds a little exaggerated to me.

I agree attagirl. The Obama mentality is seeping into our wonderful city.

Troubles seem to have been stopped before these guys got to where they were going.

yeah, stockpile, eh? Mrs. Marchesoni, your journalistic approach often leaves much to desire.

You know its Monday when we have our good gun story for the week! At least for once it wasn't anyone here in town, but then again there's always tomorrow.

So, if I counted right, there were 3 firearms and 3 people. That's one for each, right? Definitely NOT a stockpile. Also, were these people arrested because the guns were loaded and within reach, without having carry permits? It says they were charged with "possession of weapons". When did that become a crime? And another thing, two people claimed ownership on 2 guns, leaving the third under the passenger's seat. It was in the passengers "area of control", so how are you going to charge the 2 guys in the back seat with possession of a weapon. How do 2 people possess one weapon?

Who gives a flip about HOW MANY guns they had?! They had them with the intention of possibly doing bodily harm to someone and was dumb enough to admit it! I think that's the issue here people.

Alaskadave, what an ignorant statement.

What you people don't take account is that Ms. Marchesoni didn't write the headline. Stockpile: a storage pile: as a: a reserve supply of something essential accumulated within a country for use during a shortage b: a gradually accumulated reserve of something

When I was a young, (17 on) many many of us carried guns in the car. Only one of us ever got caught, he was able to talk his way out of it. I should mention none of us ever fired a shot. It was a fairly normal thing back then. Oh yeah this was the late 80s.

In this instance a stockpile would be more than one gun per person. Three guns three people no reserve, thus no stockpile.

Maybe in the long run we were better off to read this story rather than some story entitled along the lines of "Stockpile Of Human Corpses Found".

Mike, bud, 3 guns still doesn't fit your webster's definition. And if she didn't write the headline, why is her name on the story?
