Tennessee Sen. Eric Stewart

Democratic state Sen. Eric Stewart has conceded to U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais in the 4th Congressional District race.

“The voters have spoken," Stewart said in a press release. "I'm proud of the campaign we ran."

As of late Tuesday, Stewart was trailing DesJarlais by roughly 30,000 votes in the 4th District.

"We talked about fighting for working families, keeping promises we made to our seniors about Medicare and Social Security, and giving our men and women in uniform the support they need and deserve," Stewart said. "The fight for those things hasn't ended, even though my campaign for Congress has. Congress needs to stop fighting and start fixing. Working families depend on it.”

With 39 of the 46 Rutherford County precincts counted, Stewart has received 40,144 votes and DesJarlais has garnered 45,268 votes, which is 53 percent of the ballots.

The Chattanoga paper and the daily News Journal did Stewart no favor with their focus on Dejarlais long past personal problems and ignoring Stewarts "record". The backlash from these attacks contributed to a good old fashioned butt whipping for Stewart.
