NASHVILLE – Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney released the following statement after Tennessee Democrat Reps. Steve Cohen, Jim Cooper, and Bart Gordon voted in favor of health care reform:

“Plain and simple, these Democrats just did exactly what their constituents didn’t want them to do,” Devaney said. “Reps. Cohen, Cooper, and Gordon may have handed President (Barack) Obama and Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi a victory, but in the process they defeated the people of Tennesse who overwhelmingly oppose this bill. The unbridled arrogance and irresponsibility demonstrated by Democrats today has just given Tennesseans another reason to vote for Republicans in November.”

Republican Reps. Marsha Blackburn, John Duncan, Phil Roe and Zach Wamp all voted against the proposal.

I am tired of legislators whining about the other side These fine people should have been part of the process instead of just voting no. I watched and read Republican ideas were added to the bill, and they still voted no. This bill is very much like the program Mitt Romney sign in to law in MA when he was governor. THIS IS POLITICAL POSTURING.
Just like the dems did when they were not in power. To these Rep representatives I thank you for your service your job is not an easy one. But mine isn't either. I do not have the chance to make a difference, How about you start representing us instead of the Republican party.

Let's do it all over again. The 1st bill bad major accounting errors. The bill must be voted on again. This is going to be funny to watch this time.

How can a Republican politician claim to speak for the other party's constituents? That's pretty arrogant...I'm one of Gordon's constituents, and he voted exactly as I wanted him to.

Good for you, Bart. You have ample support with your constituency.

This law will have major impact on the healthcare system, some good, some bad. If you would all take the time to read the bill in it's entirety and make a comment on what you read other than the key points that are published then, you would see that special interests have their hands all over this law. There was major vote buying here and both republicans and democrats are guilty in a lot of areas. Insurance companies now have more rights to disallow procedures prescribed by doctors so quality healthcare will go down. Companies will begin layoffs to get to the magic number of 49 so they will not be required to offer healthcare in employment packages so, job loss is a part of this. Doctors will now begin to not take certain insurances that don't allow certain care so, your pool of doctors will shrink.

In short, this law is a good first step but, it also needs a ton of work to be complete and political agendas have to be set aside in refining it. I am not sure the representaion of tennesseans that are in office now can or will go against their party and vote the will of the people much less even know what the will of the people is. Make your voice heard in November and vote policy not party when these people come up for re-election. The only real problem here is that this type of legislation that involves commerce and personal buying should be left to a vote of the people and not a politician. This should be a state issue and voted on by us not the people who spend more time in Washington than they do here in the state.

driveguy and shotgun you are right! The only way that we are going to get Washington to listen to us. Is for reasonable people to speak out. Thanks for your voice
