Blackman High bowler Erika Sisk saw a dream come true on Thursday when she signed a national letter-of-intent with Kentucky Wesleyan.

Sisk, a four-time individual state tournament qualifier, will be part of the school’s first team in the program’s history.

“They’re just starting a team this year,” Sisk said. “It’s really exciting but also nerve racking.”

Sisk, who plans to major in chemistry, said academics played a big role in her decision.

“It helps that they’re top five academically in the south,” she added.

Sisk said she started bowling at age 12 and is excited to see how the next chapter of her bowling career unfolds.

“I was about 12 when I started, and this is something I’ve dreamed about for a long time. I knew I had the potential when I was young. I’m really nervous, but awful excited.”

Sisk received the 2017-2018 Academic Excellence Award this year. She also is a three-time junior gold champion, which encompasses six state qualifiers for the national tournament.

She played a huge role in Blackman winning the district and region tournament and making it to the state semifinals this past season.

Sisk recently finished four in the state wide Pepsi tournament, which created her the opportunity — along with her academics — to sign with Kentucky Wesleyan.

“Kentucky Wesleyan is a huge opportunity,” said her mother Lorie. “They’re ranked seventh for chemistry in the U.S. It’s a start-up bowling team and the education is second to none. (Their coach) came back at the Pepsi tournament and watched her bowl and asked if he could get this much money would I consider it. It’s been a very exciting day. “
