More than 200 special athletes will compete in the annual Special Olympics track and field meet with opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at MTSU's football stadium.
Law enforcement officers will launch the annual games with the torch run.
Competition begins at 10 a.m. Area 16 Special Olympics includes athletes from Rutherford County Schools, Murfreesboro City Schools, individuals from local developmental centers and home and private schools.
Track and field events include:
· 25-meter developmental walk.
· 25-meter manual wheelchair race.
· 25-meter motorized wheelchair race.
· 50-meter dash.
· 100-meter dash.
· Standing long jump.
· Running long jump.
· Softball throw.
The event is free.
