The Murfreesboro Half Marathon is teaming up with local nonprofit Special Kids to offer 45 pre-registration spots in the annual running event on Oct. 11.

While registration officially opens for the Middle Half on June 7, Special Kids’ charity spots are now available until all 45 spots are sold.

“With the Middle Half filling up last year in just over two hours, Special Kids is offering a way for participants guarantee their spot early and help the kids at the same time,” said Ginger Spencer, Director of Marketing at Special Kids.
The pre-registration spots are available online through the organization’s website, specialkidstn.com. The registration fee is $200 with $65 going back to the Middle Half and $140 going to support the work of providing rehabilitation and nursing services to children with special needs at Special Kids.

The spots are available on a first come basis, and participants are encouraged to fundraise for the nonprofit through impact Special Kids, an online tool that allows users to choose their own fundraising goal. In 2013, athlete fundraising and registration fees brought in over $14,000 for the local nonprofit through the event.

Special Kids is a Christian nonprofit offering rehabilitation and nursing services to children with special needs. The Murfreesboro-based ministry started with one child in 1998 and has grown to serve over 2,600 children from 18 counties in middle Tennessee.
