| SORT team receives search and rescue video equipment |

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services is pleased to announce the Special Operations Rescue Team (SORT) has been selected to receive special rescue response equipment under the highly competitive 2009 Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP) from the Dept of Homeland Security.
Rutherford County SORT Team has been chosen to receive a ZISTOS Search and Rescue Video System to aid in rescue operations throughout Rutherford County. This camera system includes thermal capabilities and colorized image mapping allowing rescuers to quickly pre-plan and execute rescue operations that include, trench collapses hazmat, and other technical rescue missions.
This equipment will also enhance the response capabilities for public safety agencies without producing additional expenses to the citizens of Rutherford County at the same time allowing emergency responders to more quickly and effectively locate and access victims trapped within building collapses or confined spaces seen repeatedly during the Good Friday tornadoes.
Chris Clark, Director of the Rutherford County SORT Team said, “This search camera will be a great tool for the Rutherford County SORT Team, as well as other emergency agencies in this area, while still protecting and ensuring the safety of emergency responders.”
The CEDAP program is designed to compliment FEMA National Preparedness Directorate and provides specific equipment and training to qualified public safety agencies while enhancing local and regional response capabilities, across the United States. This program donates approximately $16 million dollars worth equipment and training to various agencies despite large budgetary cuts this fiscal year.
The RCEMS SORT Team is scheduled to take possession of the equipment in late September.
