Murfreesboro artist Bill Brison is painting for a special cause this holiday season. The jovial owner of Appleton’s Creative Framers is donating all of the proceeds from the sale of his original snowmen paintings to Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency’s Meals on Wheels program. “It just bothered me to think that there are older people who can’t eat,” Brison said. “We are too prosperous of a community to let that happen.” A Murfreesboro Post article on the Meals on Wheels funding shortage inspired Brison to take action. About 150 to 200 Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver an average of 185 meals per day Monday through Friday to Rutherford County senior citizens who are over 60 years old and homebound. About 56 seniors in need of this service are on a waiting list. It costs about $800 annually to feed one homebound senior. “”I think it is wonderful,” Debbie Willis, site coordinator for Mid-Cumberland Meals on Wheels, said of Brison’s contribution. “I was tickled when he called.” Since the article appeared in the Post, Meals on Wheels has received several checks and letters. So far, they have received enough donations to take two seniors off the waiting list. Brison, a professional framer, started painting the watercolor snowmen on a whim about nine years ago, a way to express his silly sense of humor, and to give to friends as gifts. Since then, the lovable characters have become popular with customers, many collecting them from year to year. Brison paints about a 100 year a year. Most sell for $30 to $40. Through the holiday season, Brison also will accept donations to the Meals on Wheels program at his North Spring Street store.
